The CREA research facilities that took part in the project are:

RESEARCH CENTRE FOR OLIVE, CITRUS AND TREE FRUIT (CREA-OFA) –  Rome

The facility deals with genetics, valorization and characterization of fruits species, but it deals also with genetic improvement, diffusion, cultivation techniques, post harvest protection, sustainability, valorization of waste and by-products, quality and resistance to the biotic and abiotic stresses of the productions.

RESEARCH CENTRE FOR FOOD AND NUTRITION (CREA-AN)

The facility deals with the technological and nutritional enhancement of agri-food products, the protection of human health, with a specific focus on food quality, functionality and sustainability. It develops analysis of economic and social matter about the production and the consumption of goods in the agri-food sector.

RESEARCH CENTRE FOR AGRICULTURAL POLICIES AND BIOECONOMY (CREA-PB)

The facility develops cognitive and interpretational analysis on the socio-economic dynamics of short, average and long period of time about the agri-food, forestry and fisheries sectors. It also carries out investigations into the characterization and the evolution of the rural areas and their competitiveness factors. It deeply analyzes the policies of the sectors evaluating their effects, their impacts and their implementation procedures.

RESEARCH CENTRE FOR GENOMICS AND BIOINFORMATICS (CREA-GB)

The facility deals with vegetal genomics, bioinformatics, genetics and physiology with a particular focus on the enlargement of the structural and functional knowledge of genes and genomes. It also takes action in the sectors of genetic improvement, of agricultural products’ security and quality, of sustainability and understanding of the producing process.

RESEARCH CENTRE FOR VITICULTURE AND ENOLOGY (CREA-VE) – Asti

The facility deals with researches on grapes, wines, vinegars, juices and it is deeply involved in the sectors of raw materials’ transformation, product conservation, usage of sub products and the enhancement of microorganisms biodiversity. It also takes a specific focus on production quality, on the Italian wine companies competitiveness, on sustainability and food security.

RESEARCH CENTRE FOR ENGINEERING AND AGRO-FOOD PROCESSING (CREA-IT) – Milan and Monterotondo (Rome)

The facility in Monterotondo (Rome) deals with the developing of technologies and methodologies that could be used in the agricultural engineering, with a specific focus on the agricultural mechanization sector, on the environment management one, and on the products’ post harvest technologies and transformation, all whilst taking into account the techno-scientific support to the sector’s policies and to the certification and normative harmonization process. The facility in Milan deals with fruit and vegetables products’ transformation and conservation technologies as well as those methods that allow the evaluation of raw material and finished product’s quality.

RESEARCH CENTRE FOR PLANT PROTECTION AND CERTIFICATION (CREA-DC) –  Rome and Florence

The facility in Florence deals with the enhancement and defence of the territory, of the agri-forestal systems and food from the damages caused by insects, mites and nematodes. Their activities primarily focus on the characterization of pedological process, mapping, soil degradation, desertification, emission of greenhouse gases, microbial ecology, diagnosis and defence from all insect pests and parasites, environmental biodiversity and quality. The facility in Rome deals with the defence of agricultural and forestal plants from biotic agents (bacteria, fungi, viruses, viroids, phytoplasmas and so on) and abiotic ones (plant diseases, bad soil and climate conditions). It studies the interaction between the plant and the pathogen, the epidemiology, the characterization of pathogenic organisms populations with traditional methods and molecular biology to fight the diseases.

CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION – TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER PATENTS AND RELATIONSHIPS WITH BUSINESSES (CREA-AC)

The office manages the elaboration and disclosure of satisfying and shared research results and the innovations produced by CREA research centers on topics of particular interest.
It manages the online platform for the publication of results and innovations of CREA, which are classified and archived according to criteria that favor the interaction between the stakeholders and document archiving. It carries out the organization of CREA results that can be promptly transferred on the basis of the needs expressed by specific territorial productive contexts. It provides support to CREA research centers for the implementation of demonstration activities and territorial testing of the obtained results in order to promote the development and diffusion of CREA innovations among the enterprises and stakeholders.
